The Treatment

At Orange County Acupuncture and Herbs, your initial visit will take about 85 minutes and includes a 30-minute consultation for an in-depth review of your health history and understanding the etiology of your chief complaint. We will go over your existing Western medical diagnosis, labs and imaging, and then do additional assessments to analyze your pattern from the holistic perspectives of Chinese medicine. After the consultation, we will go in to treatment, which could include further assessment during treatment. The treatment typically lasts about 40 minutes. Follow-up treatments will have a shorter intake and takes about 55 mins total.

At the end of the session, the practitioner will inform you of the recommended treatment duration. For acute conditions, we recommend 4-6 sessions on a bi-weekly basis to resolve the issue. For chronic cases, patients will benefit most from regular weekly treatments with herbal prescriptions, and usually takes three months to see sustained results. The first month is is for data gathering and treatment; the second month is for evaluating the outcome and adjusting the treatment if necessary; and the third month is for consolidating and reevaluating future approaches.  When you first get treatment, coming twice a week will allow you to see significant improvement 80-90 of the time.  Once a week will see improvement 60-75% of the time.  Coming in every other week or longer is considered appropriate for maintenance and consolidation, where temporary adjustments are desired to continue course but no major long term shifts should be expected.

For complex syndromes, it is important for patients to stay committed and compliant as much as possible to address evolving symptoms and to iteratively adjust treatments. This is an investment in your health and we will do our best to provide you with the best care possible.  Our success depend on our ability to work towards your health together. What will you do for less dependence on drugs and a better quality of life?
